Intranet Design - Case Study
The Sheppard Robson intranet
- The current Sheppard Robson intranet was launched in September 2003, replacing an earlier version which had been in use for the previous two years. The intranet is divided into six major content areas, each with its own header image and sidebar navigation.
- Most content is authored directly by staff using Macromedia 'Contribute 3' software to create and edit the HTML pages. Some larger, or more complex, documents are held as PDF files, created from originals in a variety of other applications such as MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Extensive use is made of hyperlinks to documents, templates, and multimedia files held 'outside' the intranet on the practice's IT network. This ensures that staff have access to the latest versions, from the intranet, without needing to be aware of the network location of the original.
- The six major content areas are:
- Home - News, Calendar, Staff Classifieds, CPD, Sports, Links, ITC Helpdesk.
- About SR - Staff e-Handbook, staff photographs, telephone list, Who's Who, office locations.
- Quality Management System - Quality Manual, Policies, Procedures, Manuals, Forms.
- Information - Finance, Marketing, HR, Administration, ITC, Modelmaking, Technical and Library, Sustainability.
- Resources - Forms and Templates, Image Library, Website Manager, Marketing, Branding, Archives.
- Search/Help - Search, FAQ, User Help, System Help.
